I really loved all the galleries that were showing at Bergamot Station, especially a series of paintings called “Birds, Bees, and Accidental Overdose”. However, of the photography exhibits at Bergamot Station, I very much enjoyed Ron Jude’s exhibit, called “Emmett”. My favorite photo from the gallery was titled “Landscape with Spectrum Light Rays”. The photo is exactly as the title describes; a landscape shot of what looks like a body of water surrounded by Evergreen trees in the back. It appears to be taken from above the water on some sort of trail. What makes the image unique is the rainbow light spectrum that bursts down in colorful lines from the top left corner of the page, where the light source or sun must be. If it weren’t for the spectrum from the light rays, the image would be bland and unimpressive, in my opinion. The imposition of the rays of light adds a flair of excitement and magic that would otherwise be lacking in the image. I like that the light rays are so visible in the photo, as they are not so clearly seen with the naked eye. The light rays with the spectrum of colors may symbolize the power of seeing beauty in the everyday, or some sort of heavenly spirit smiling down from above. The image has a dream-like quality that is both beautiful and calming because of the relaxing setting.
